Raising Money for Headway - The Brain injury association We have been very lucky by having quite a bit of interest from the media, more than we could have ever have hoped for, within a few weeks of our story hitting the local papers we we found ourselves appearing on GMTV. This page shows the highlights of the media interest we have had.
Our story first appeared on
the front page of the Derbyshire Times (Alfreton Edition) and second page of
the chesterfield edition on
Thursday 16th March 2006 as an exclusive, the following day, the local free
p aper the Echo also ran the
story. Since then ITV Central
News East contacted us
wanting to show our story on
the local news.
Senior reporter Alistair Jackson came out on Monday 20th March 2006
and interviewed Wendy and Andrew at our house then I said a few word sat on
my bike with Wendy, then also filmed us riding down the street on my
GSX1400, it was a nerve racking experience let me tell you, I'm not that
keen on being photographed at the best of times never mind TV cameras, we
got through it ok, I did video both showings of the new story. Picture above left, (from the Derbyshire Times) Andrew Wall (front), and mum Wendy Heath and Step Dad Dave Heath. Picture above right, Front page of the Derbyshire times. Central News showed our story in less than an hour of filming on
the lunch time news and was
then shown again on the early evening news at 6pm, later that evening, the
Derby Evening Telegraph contacted us and wanted to run the story for the
Tuesday morning 21 March 2006 on page 6. Picture left, The ITV News van outside of our house. Picture right, Page of the Derby Evening Telegraph The Derbyshire times website also has the story on its own website click here to see (direct link to the article). GMTV - 3rd April '06 After seeing our story in the Sunday People newspaper, GMTV (click here) contacted us Sunday evening (2nd April) wanting myself (Dave), my wife Wendy, and of course Andrew to appear on the show Monday morning, wow!! We travelled down from Derbyshire that
evening to
Westminster, London had a few hours sleep in a hotel, courtesy of GMTV, up
at
5 am and arrived at the GMTV studios at around 6am (eyes propped open with
matchsticks!!). As it was live TV and myself being very shy even without a
camera pointing at me, I left it to my wife Wendy, Andrew and Andrew's
sister Joanne Wall to do the honours of being interviewed, firstly by John
Stapleton and Gloria at 6:45am, then again twice later on with Ben Sheppard
and Penny Smith, I did make an appearance on the show from in the
"green room" at around 9:15. Ant and Dec were also in the green room earlier
in the morning with us and said 'hi' to us, We would like to thank all at GMTV, and made us feel really welcome.------------------------------------------------- Headway's website have also published a >>news release<< on their website: "Headway is very grateful to Dave and Wendy for their epic journey. A spokesperson said: “We're so glad Andrew is making such a miraculous recovery. This must have been one of the most harrowing things any parent could experience and to go on to do something so selfless as to raise money for Headway in such an an amazing way is absolutely wonderful. Our sincere thanks and best wishes go out Wendy, Dave and Andrew.” Click here for the link for the full article. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 28 December 2006 - Derbyshire Times, News Stories review of the year ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
