Raising Money for
Headway - The Brain injury association
On
30th June 2006, we set off for Spain on my GSX1400 K2, a run
we decided to do for charity
which we called head2spain
raising money for Headway - the brain injury association (www.headway.org.uk)
Unfortunately, we broke down in Spain on the return journey. This is our story of the trip
30/06/06.
![]() Above (Left), Loaded up ready to go (Right) At Eurotunnel terminal 30th June 06: Derbyshire to Calais: Clear blue skies on the morning we set off, an excellent start for our adventure. The 220 mile UK leg of our journey was all motorway, M1 M25 and M20 straight to the channel tunnel, usual congestion down the M1 and M25. we had a mid afternoon crossing to Calais, we booked a hotel for the night close to the tunnel terminal, for the rest of the afternoon we rode down the D940 outside Calais looking at the coast. Page under construction, More Details of the trip here shortly ![]() ![]() ![]()

1st July 06: Calais to Orleans. Setting
off from Calais, we headed to Paris. We went around the infamous
Peripherique, as usual everything at a stand still, one big car park. and
continued down to Nord Saran, Orleans for our overnight stop.
![]() ![]() ![]() Above - Millau viaduct on the A75 Autoroute, southern France. The worlds highest road bridge. 2nd July 06: Orleans to Narbonne. This was our Favourite sections of the ride down to Spain, nice roads, stunning views. The Millau Viaduct on the A75 Autoroute la Méridienne, is one of the most spectacular bridges I've ever seen, it's the world's highest road bridge and is in the Aveyron, Midi-Pyrénéese Region of southern France. The temperature were hot to say the least, hitting 40°c, the highest temperatures I've ever encountered, and in full leathers!!! I can only describe it as riding in a oven, the air was so hot, after 9 hours and 420 miles of riding we were totally exhausted with the heat. We stayed at a Ibis Hotel in Narbonne, you wouldn't believe how glad we was to have an air conditioned room. The hotel had a log fired grill restaurant and do the best steaks ever know to mankind. ![]() Above (left/middle) - Pyramid at the French-Spanish border... (Right) At Lloret De Mar. 2nd July 06: Narbonne, France to Lloret De Mar, Spain. This was the shortest of the days rides of the whole journey down at 120 miles. Return Journey: Unfortunately, due to a breakdown we could not complete the whole of the trip. having made it to Spain without any problems we did break down when we got near Barcelona, Unfortunately, we were unable to get the bike repaired in Spain. At the time of the breakdown (8th July 06) we had completed 1112.4 miles of the planned 2000miles. On the 11th July it was decided because of the bike not being able to be fixed abroad it would have to be transported back to the UK via AA breakdown insurance cover and we had to fly home leaving the bike in Spain until recovery was organised. We would like to thank all involved and all who sponsored us, To Be Continued....... The return to Spain... June '07......
